God in a Smile

Today I went with a friend to the local hospital. We went to the ICU waiting room to pray with the families and friends of the patients receiving care.

I was going to support Sarah. She was led by the Spirit to go to the hospital. When I prayed, I was led to support someone to pray for healing. Then we shared and knew we were supposed to go together.

I wasn’t sure what to expect. There was no planning and the afternoon was completely up to what God had planned.

We got off the elevator to the waiting room and looked around. There were only a few families scattered around. It seemed pretty obvious that we were going to talk to everyone.

The first family I saw was a couple and their young boy. I felt drawn to them, but decided to follow Sarah. I knew we would get to them. Sarah spoke with a larger family consisting of a few generations. That is her story to tell. We spoke with a few other families and prayed with those who allowed us.

The last family was the one I noticed first. It was a small family from Mexico. The father, Guadalupe, was there for his brother. With him was his son and another young lady.

We first walked up and asked to pray for them and whoever they were at the hospital for. Guadalupe looked at us blankly and then asked the lady with him to translate. She was confused. “He understands English.” She said.

She translated it for him and once he understood his entire countenance changed. He got this huge smile and you could see burdens lift off of him. It’s as if he was sitting in worry and anxiety about his brother.

His brother, Joshua, had been in a car accident. His brain had begun swelling and they needed to operate. They were there for his second surgery, waiting.

Guadalupe needed someone to come and give him assurance that his brother was being looked after. He was excited for us to pray. He even offered us some of their pizza, he was so grateful.

Sarah and I prayed for Joshua and his family. We talked for a little after and I wished them blessings. All the while, enjoying looking at the freedom I saw on Guadalupe. I could tell his family noticed and they were smiling to.

God used Sarah and I to show this small family in a foreign place that He was with them and loved them. Our obedience at that time helped lift a burden off of a Son of God.

It was a simple task. Going to the hospital and asking to pray for people is so much easier than asking to pray for people in other environments. If you want to go out and share God with others, this is a more comfortable way to start.
